Need websites for booking train travel from Cologne, Germany to Normandy, back to Paris, final destination, London. Any tips? Travel in September, so thinking that I should prebook. 2 adults.
You will need to travel from Cologne to Normandy via Paris anyway, so for Cologne-Paris: try www.bahn.de or www.thalys.com and see which has a cheaper fare. for travel within France: www.tgv-europe.com for Paris-London: www.eurostar.com. Eurostar tickets go on sale four months in advance so the cheap fares may have already gone.
Deb, I believe that www.tgv-europe.com will route you to an updated www.voyages-sncf.com website. It's still the main French train website. Secondly, select Great Britain, Canada or France as your Ticket Collection Country. If you select USA, the site will attempt to switch you to RailEurope which you don't want. They're a ticket broker largely owned by SNCF.
Check out www.seat61.com for all train travel how-to tips.
Things have changed on tgv-europe.com. If you pick Great Britain as your ticket collection country, you then will have to choose between going to the UK Rail Europe site or to voyages-sncf.com. If you choose Canada, you'll be re-directed to the Canadian Rail Europe site. You can avoid that mess and go directly to voyages-sncf.com by choosing France as your ticket collection country. Remove the check mark from the "direct trains only" field so you'll see all departure times and routes for point A to point B.
