What are the options for renting a car in Portugal? I live in the US and have been just looking online on kayak, expedia etc. the rates seem to be really high! Close to $900 for a 8 days rental (cheapest option) is this the normal range? Are there any local car rental companies in Lisbon that are cheaper? Please advise. Thanks.
Portugal is high but not that high. The cheapest should work out to less than three hundred per week. If you got the same car in Spain it'd be well under two hundred. Are you looking for something special like an automatic transmission?
Just for a regular not automatic. Any suggestions from
Where we can rent it in Lisbon ?
For the past few years we have been using economycarrentals.com in several countries with good results. They are a wholesaler and usually work with local rental car companies. We used them last year in Portugal, renting a car at the airport and returning it there. There were 6 of us so we rented a van (a first for us). We had it for 5 days and paid around $700. A small car was less than half that price, so check out their website for a comparison.
Just curious - how much is a manual transmission car for the same timeframe/dates?
Are you looking at renting the car in Portugal and dropping it off in Spain? That would explain the insane price you're seeing... Try gemut.com. Longtime, well-established, customer-service-oriented US company that will set up everything for you and get you competitive rates. Highly recommended by many folks here (I've used them many times and will again).
