We will be travelling from Varenna to Amsterdam by car in the last two weeks of May, 2014. Will I have trouble finding accommodation if I do not book ahead? We hope to travel via Basel, Mulhouse, Colmar and Cologne.
If you're comfortable not knowing where you're going to stay at night and don't mind taking time out of your day to look for a room, you'll no doubt be able to find one. But if you have an itinerary and know the cities you'll be in overnight, why not book ahead and save the time it takes to locate a hotel when you get to your destination?
Thanks Brenda for your suggestion. We do not want to overnight in the larger centres but know the route we will be travelling. We are not averse to searching for accommodations so we will take a chance of finding something on our route. Arlene
I love Banks Mansion!! I would highly recommend it. Wonderful place, so much included in the price of a room. Well worth it. Great neighborhood. I found them on Hotels.com but often use Kayak.com also.
If you want to stay in Basel, you may have trouble finding something in your desired price range without pre-planning. Because of all the business travelers the city hosts throughout the year, the average price of a room is a little steep.
