Visiting Amsterdam by car with our two children (7 and 4). Would Haarlem or Amsterdam be a better homebase, or somewhere else?

Sorry Brian, but your question is a little general in scope. You couldn't go wrong staying in Amsterdam, as being in the city is so handy. Last three times we were there, we stayed in Amsterdam Zuid (South), just east of the Olympic Stadium. It's a residential neighborhood with light rail into the center city, and bed and breakfasts are available. The rooms in the city's hotels have gotten really expensive, and we prefer to stay in cheaper, quieter neighborhoods.
AirBnB and Booking.com are good places to find rooms for Amsterdam.
