I am travelling to Munich the 1st of Oct. Looking at buying a Bayern Ticket. I understand you can only travel Monday to Friday after 9 am, wondering about the weekend Can you use the ticket any time during this time. Arriving at Munich airport, spending the afternoon in Munich and then heading to Fussen on the train, hopefully around 4pm. Is a Bayern ticket ok from the airport to Fussen. Two days later leaving Fussen going to Munich and on to Dachau for the afternoon. Later that day going to Rothenburg de Tabor for three days. Will a Bayern ticket cover all this travel On Friday leaving Rothenburg going to Munich for the day and then on to the airport. How would I book the ticket? One more question. I have emailed the ticket centre 2x's now to book my tickets for the castle tours in Fuseen. No response. I used the email address in the Rick Steve's book. My friend used this last year and had no problem Thanks Carol
On weekends use the Schönes-Wochenende-Ticket that is good all day No need to buy tickets in advance. Just buy at the ticket machine on the day of use.
"Later that day going to Rothenburg de Tabor for three days." That's about 2.5 more days than you'll need for Rothenburg.
The Bayern Ticket is also good on the weekend. The difference is that you do not have to wait until after 9AM to use it. It is good all day. Count me as one of those who like Rothenburg. Its main fault is that it is too popular. But, it is popular for good reasons. While you are the there, consider walking one day down to Detwang in the Tauber valley to visit St Peter's and St Paul's Church to see the Riemenschneider altar. It is a very nice area. Regards, Gary
"On weekends use the Schönes-Wochenende-Ticket that is good all day". If you are not traveling outside Bavaria, the Bayern-Ticket gives the same options on a weekend day, any regional trains all day long, at a much better price. Buy the Bayern-Ticket at an automat on the platform in the S-Bahn station at the airport. It will be good for all modes of transport in the Munich metro (MVV), the S-Bahn into town and the S/U-Bahn, trams, and buses in town, then for the train to Füssen. Use the castle tour booking form on the Hohenschwangau website.
