10 day Barcelona/Granada itinerary? (Thread mostly closed)

We're flying into and out of Girona airport on Feb 1st and 11th and trying to plan an itinerary involving:
- Barcelona (we hear 3 nights is probably a good number),
- Granada (how long here?),
- some Andalucian beaches (Nerja? 1 night?),
- being somewhere cool for Carnival on Tuesday (the 5th, though there's probably something happening in most places on Sunday the 3rd),
- Wouldn't mind a White Village like Arcos, though it seems somewhat out of the way. (We're going by Bus, for the most part, except for the ryanair flight from Girona to Granada)

We're unfortunately Rick Steves spain-book-less, since its just not sold out here in Austria and ordering it will take too long (we found an up-to-date Lonely Planet out here)

why not take the bus from granada to one of the white hill towns (they do direct and are cheaper than the train and often faster). from one of the white hill towns you can take another bus to sevilla. spend a couple days in sevilla, then take the AVE train to madrid and then on to barcelona. The AVE doesn't quite make it to barcelona yet, but you can then take local transport (train) the rest of the way back. I think this sounds like a logical route. You could also substitue cordoba for sevilla and take the AVE back to madrid as above. hope this helps.

How many days are you proposing for Seville, Madrid, the white village town and Granada?

As far as Carnivales go, the two hottest spots on the mainland are Sitges (just outside Barcelona) and Cádiz. (I do caution, however, that Sitges is the gay capital of Spain, so if overt homosexuality makes you uncomfortable, better stick with Cádiz.)

While in Cádiz, you might try Caños de Mecca or Bolonia (Trafalgar area) for a little bit of sandy paradise. Have a great trip!

We sat down this weekend and ironed our itinerary out so I'm gonna put up another post asking about specific things relating to our itinerary. (Good suggestion on Cadiz, but all the cheaper hotels in the area are booked booked booked)

Really, there's not much point in getting a hotel room - Carnivale in Spain is an all night affair. Have fun.
