1 night in Amboise (Loire Valley Area)

Driving to Amboise (Loire Valley area) from Bayeux. Does anyone know how long this drive should take? Favorite place to stay in Amboise area....Castle, B & B, I'm open. Best way to get to Paris from Amboise, ie; should I return my car (if so where) and take the train in, or drive into Paris? Thanks for any info

Yes, viamichelin.com and Google Maps know. The times you find there are driving time only, add for stops.

Kim, are you picking your car up in Paris so you need to return it there-- are you staying in Paris after the Loire visit? If so, I"d drive the car back to a suburb of Paris next to a station to return it, and then take the train in.

Also, for the lenght of drive from Bayeux and then to Paris, I'd spend more than 1 night in the area if you're there to see chateaux.

We are actually originating from Bruge by train to Normandy region (not sure where we will take the train to) and rent a car for driving around to DDay sites. Staying 2 nights in Bayeux, then driving to Amboise area for a 2 days/one night then onto Paris for the remainder of our trip.

If your rental car agency has a location in Amboise, I would return it there. You can then take the train into Paris. I would not drive into Paris. As long as you are renting the car in France, you can return it anywhere in France without additional drop-off charges. I rent from AutoEurope or Kemwel. Go online to check their prices and the locations for their rental agencies in France. They act as a broker for Hertz, Europcar & Avis. You can also call Gemut for a quote. Enjoy Amboise. My husband and son really enjoyed Leonardo Da Vinci's home and outdoor hands-on museum.

Chartres is just one hour by train from Paris. You can easily fit in a quick visit to the Cathedral on your way. Dropping a car off there is easy.
