1-3 day trips from Barcelona

So I am travelling to Barcelona at the end of March and I was thinking of taking a short excursion from Barcelona for a coupld of days. I've never been to Spain but it seems like Barcelona is quite far from some of the other cities. Recommendations where to go? I am considering Madrid, Seville, Valencia, and Marseille but I would like to get an idea of how much those extra trips would cost.....by train, plane, bus....Also, I will be in Spain the weekend of Easter so I'm not sure how much that will impact the places I would like to visit. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'll plump for Madrid....fantastic city with tons of things to keep you busy. The fast train is too expensive....flying is the way to go. Discount airfares are as low as 90 Euro R/T all in via vueling...and the sooner you book, the better. The week leading up to Easter is one of the greatest times to be in Spain, with virtually every city, town, and village staging massive celebrations of Semana Santa.I would stay in Barcelona for that, since travel and accommodations elsewhere are already likely to be booked. You should be able to find a full schedule of Semana Santa week events in Barcelona at www.barcelonaturisme.com . BTW, Easter is 12 April this year, so I assume you'll be in Barcelona for two weeks? Is much of your time occupied by business, or is this totally a holiday? If it's a holiday, you can range far and wide across Spain....and even farther, since Barcelona's a good hub for discount airlines. You may get bored with 2 weeks in Barcelona.

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I made a huge mistake in my posting.....I will not be in Spain for Easter or in April for that matter. Don't know why I got confused. Will be there from March 19-26.

No matter :) My suggestion of Madrid still stands, with tons to do and, as I mentioned in an earlier post, day trips to magnficent cities like Segovia and Toledo.
