Without a car in York, which tours would be good for just outside of York? We were disappointed in Bath not to have booked in advance, so I'd love some help Thanks

We did not have a car when we were in York. You can easily get to Durham by train and see a castle and a cathedral. (I did not do that because because we were not in York long enough.) There is also a Castle Howard that seems accessible by train. I don't know anything about it either, but that is an idea to look into.
