Would I have enough time in the day for this itinerary?!

In the middle of my journey, I will be staying in York and then heading to Edinburgh (via rental car). The travel takes me up near Durham, Bamburgh, and Holly Island. I was wondering if I should stop along the way to any of these sights or just drive through? I know it's a trek anyway and I wanted to know if I could do this in one day?? Any other helpful tips would be appreciated! Thanks!

Have you considered the train? York to Edinbrugh is a realatively short trip (about 2 to 2 1/2 hours) and that way you don't have to worry about driving or parking in Edinburgh. I believe you could even stop in Durham on the way as the train goes that way.

We made this trip from Edinburgh to York last October. We did it in 2 days stopping at a b & b near Holy Island. We went to the border abbeys etc the first day, then Holy Island, Bamburgh and Alnwick Castle the 2nd day.We ran out of time and skipped Durham due to the short days. Will have to go back. Hadrian,s wall is in the area also. A few years ago we did go all the way in 1 day with stops at Hadrian's wall and Castle Howard so it can done. It just depends on what you want to see.

Via Michelin shows this as nearly a 5 hour drive, so I would say that you could likely take in one stop if you left early. I though Durham was fantastic and its compact so you could see a lot in a couple of hours.
