We'd like to take a day trip to Windsor out of London and are now thinking maybe it would be advantageous to do it on eve of our flight home, staying in Windsor overnight.
How simple and expensive would it be to get to Heathrow ?(12:25pm flight) Would appreciate your thoughts.TIA
Windsor borders Heathrow airport; it's closer to the airport than central London. From Windsor to Heathrow is a short taxi trip, about 15 minutes. There is also regular bus service. Go for it; stay overnight in Windsor.
Staying in Windsor would be a great place to stay overnight before your flight. Heathrow is a 15 minute taxi ride from Windsor. We have stayed at Ye Harte and Garter Hotel in Windsor several times, it's right across the street from Windsor Castle. Where ever you stay in Windsor, hotel or B&B they can arrange a taxi for you.
Its about a 20 GBP ($US33) taxi between Windsor and Heathrow (will vary depending on terminal). There are also several public buses that go about every 20 minutes to Terminal 5 for a fraction of this.
Windsor is relatively expensive for accommodation in town, the only budget choice being the Travelodge Windsor which is in an excellent position right next to Windsor Castle.
If your are staying over the weekend the Marriott Windsor (half way between Windsor and Heathrow) has rooms normally well below $US100. This hotel has a shuttle to the terminals at Heathrow and also public buses to Windsor from in front of it.
Thank you all so much. Sounds like Windsor will be our choice for the last night.
We have stayed at the Clarence Hotel in Windsor several times the night before a flight. It is moderately priced but with some character, short walk from the castle. They will set you up with a taxi. www.clarence-hotel.co.uk
We enjoyed the Castle Hotel in Windsor. It is also mentioned in Bill Bryson's book "Notes on a small island".
