Windsor Castle question

Thank you to everyone that has been answering my previous questions. I have one more that I was hoping someone could help me with:
We want to go to Windsor Castle. I know we have to take a train to get there, but what I have not been able to figure out is, how do we actually get to the castle after we arrive at the train station? Are there shuttle services or buses or is it in walking distance? I have been trying to search around, and I haven't had any luck. Any tips on getting there or what you liked about Windsor would be greatly appreciated.

It is within walking distance. Windsor is a very small town. Have fun!

The info is in Rick Steves London 2008 book, which I highly recommend.

I think we got on the train to go to Windsor at Paddington Station. We walked to the castle from train station. There is a hotel right on the Thames, left side as you would be walking towards Eton which is a short walk and worth seeing IMO. Anyway, the hotel has a restaurant with terrace dining overlooking the Thames and we had a nice lunch there. Enjoy your trip!

The Castle is only about a block from the station. You will LOVE it. It is our favorite European castle. Take time to enjoy the yellow rose garden and the "Long Walk". And I second the vote about a walk over to Eton. Also do a cruise down the Thames- you get some really good views of the castle and town.

We were in Windsor just a couple of weeks ago. An easy walk of only a few blocks from the train station will take you into town where you will find the castle entrance. Just ask someone to point you in the proper direction. Lovely small town. Magnificent castle. No wonder Her Majesty loves it. Be sure to visit St. George's Chapel as well. You can see Christopher Wren's home in Windsor, too, near the river.

It is a very short walk. We were just there two weeks ago and considered it to be the best thing was saw in/around London. We bought our train (Great Western) tickets from a teller at Paddington Station, then hopped right on the train. I think the round trip for 4 of us was only about 20 pounds. You want train tickets to Windsor and Eton Central (WNC). You'll take about a 20 minute train ride to the town of Slough, then switch trains there to a smaller train that just makes a quick (less than 10 minutes) shuttle run back and forth between WNC and Slough. Once you get off at WNC, you can't miss the castle. It didn't appear that anybody cared what train you took or returned on, just that you had a ticket. Just follow the other tourists, almost everybody who gets off at Slough is going to WNC. Make sure you snoop around some in the little town of Windsor, just outside the castle walls. It's where Shakespeare hung out while he wrote the Merry Wives of Windsor (at least according to a sign there).

My favourite story about Windsor is this one: Some years ago Prince Charles wrote a book (on architecture) which was launched with much publicity. A book store in Windsor had copies of the book in their shop window with a small sign reading, "Book By Local Author".

Don't forget to also try Hampton Court which is a short train ride from London as well, I believe. It's also very historic, beautiful, and right on the River Thames. Windsor Castle is lovely - you will very much enjoy it. The town of Windsor is also very quaint.
