Windsor as an overnight stop near Heathrow

Not a question, but I just want to thank Robin for this suggestion. It was perfect. Although very close to Heathrow, Windsor is a charming village right on the Thames. Great for walking to get the travel kinks out. We were warned in advance that taxis there are VERY expensive, so we took Bus 71 from T5. The ride was 40 minutes as it wound around a bit, but the bus stopped right across the street from our B&B, Frances Lodge. This was a very nice place with very modern rooms and a great breakfast with smoked salmon, etc. Highly recommended.

Hi Lola, you are so very welcome. I'm so glad that you enjoyed Windsor. I really enjoy walking around Windsor, especiall in the evening when most of the tourist is gone for the day. St. George's Chapel has a lovely Evensong.

We walked over to Eton just about the time the students were coming back from dinner in their tailcoats. Quite a sight!

Wow! Thanks for posting this. In two weeks we will be staying in Windsor after landing at Heathrow. I will look for bus 71.
Thanks!

Sandy, the buses leave from T5 just outside the baggage claim area.. Check the signs for the departure point for your bus. When we were there 10 days ago, Bus 71 left from #9. There is another bus to Windson, #77, which is more of an express bus, but it does not make as many stops in Windsor and would have left us with a long walk to our B&B. The driver on #71 was very kind. I asked where we should get off, and showed him the map I printed out from Google. He advised that he stopped in Frances Road right near our B&B, and said he woudl announce it. then he gave me a "thumbs up" and a big smile.
