My husband and I will be in Denmark for 6.5 days in May. We are wondering if we should stay in Copenhagen for the entire time or stay in another small town for a day or two. I know we can take side trips to see other parts of the country, but would it be better to stay in a small town for the experience? Thanks in advance for your input!
That depends entirely on what you want your vibe to be. I could spend 60.5 days in Copenhagen and never be bored or long for the wooded glen (not that they have many of those in DK) - but there are so smashingly charming small towns around that would be delightful for a one or two night stay. I would suggest maybe staying in Roskilde for a night or two. Rosklide is most excellent. For teensy adorableness, check out Dragør (http://www.copenhagenet.dk/cph-map/cph-dragoer-test.asp) or Ærøskøbing (http://dcbellows.wordpress.com/2008/07/17/). The third largest city, Odense, has a nicely preserved medieval center that gives the feeling of going WAY back in time. http://www.galenfrysinger.com/denmark_odense.htm I loved Ebeltoft - but then that is probably mostly because I am ship nut, and DK's oldest man-o-war is there.
I like Copenhagen and there is more than enough to do for a week there. We used the Copenhagen card, which covers transportation all over northern Zealand and allows you to roam west and north to your heart's content.
Thank you for your insight!
