WiFi in London?

A few of the more economical places I'm looking at staying in London (Cherry Court, plus some RS recommended others....) don't seem to have wifi. I would like to use my ipod touch to keep in touch and plan the days.

Is there paid wifi that is available in London? (I read they want to wifi the whole city for the Olympics....and I recall seeing Orange ? Or Cloud ? as options that cost something, which would be fine. I don't expect free.

Thanks!

With a purchase you get 30 minutes free WiFi at McDonalds and Starbucks; reasonable rates after that. Some of the smaller parks dotted around the city also have free WiFi sponsored by the local chamber of commerce.

With McDonalds, I think the access information is on the receipt for your food order. Or maybe that was just the code to open the restroom door.

The City, yes, the city, no. It can be hit and miss. I did get some free wifi in some places just due to unsecured networks, but nothing really consistent or reliable. And because the touch doesn't have the greatest reach, you'll need to get somewhere with a strong signal (I had a touch and a netbook, and the netbook picked up so much more).

I wouldn't plan until you go, but get something once you're there... as you may have good signal strength for a BT connection, or whatever else. Or, if you're not planning on doing much, hitting the free signals might work. I never did get the Leicester Square signal to work with my touch.
