It's hard to say, rates at five star hotel will be more than those of a Ibis Hotel. McDonald's and Starbucks provide 30 minutes of free wifi with a purchase, reasonable rates after that. There is also free wifi on the bank of the Thames in the area of the BFI and the National Theatre complex.
We enjoy free WiFi at the Limetree Hotel.
Nearly every public phone box is a wireless hotspot. We had high speed wireless internet at our apartment, which was very handy. I was able to make phone calls to my family with Skype that way too.
J D Weatherspoon are a chain of pubs that probably have a pub near wherever you are staying.
They have free wi-fi and also some of the best value drinks and meals in London.
They have specials nights.
Sunday is roast dinners, Tuesday is steaks and THursday is currys. On these you can get a good meal plus any drink of your choice for about 6 GBP.
You can alsways get a 'proper' burger plus fries plus any drink for 5 GBP any time.
Check their web site for locations.
I have found that there are enough Internet Cafe's around that I did not need to lug my computer about or worry about leaving it in the hotel room. I left it home last trip and use the cafe's. 1 or two pounds for 15 to 30 minutes every other day was sufficient to keep me in touch with my family and friends.
Thanks for all the great info...my daughter and I are making our first trip to England in July, and we still want to be able to connect with friends and family back home.
We had free wi-fi at the Cherry Court Hotel. I think it is ridiculous that high-end hotels charge for wi-fi. They already make killing on the price of their rooms.
If you need wi-fi all day for work, that is cool, but I hope you aren't looking for wi-fi all day while touring.
