whisky ice cream

I was in Edinburgh in 1997, and stopped at a place called Pickwick Papers. It was on Princes Street, and it was similar to a newstand type of place, greeting cards were also sold there. At the back of the store, there was a small freezer case where ice cream was sold, (hand dipped). One of the flavors intrigued me so, I just had to try it. It was whisky flavor! I don't care for the taste of whisky, but tried it anyway, and found it to be some of the most delightful ice cream I've ever had! Two years later, I visited Edinburgh again, made my way to Pickwick Papers only to discover they no longer sell ice cream. I will be visiting Edinburgh again this September. Does anyone know where I could find this delicious treat? I'd love for my husband to try it.

You might try emailing any of the whisky distilleries. There are dozens. They might know as I'm sure the workers there are familiar with the treat.

It might not be made with real whiskey. You can buy whiskey flavoring that contains no alcohol. Alcohol would play havoc with the freezing point of the ice cream. That's not an insurmountable problem but it would cause issues during the manufacture, transport and storage.

Post this question on the Tripadvisor Scotland Forum. The locals will know if it is still being produced. Googling whisky ice cream brings up lots of recipes so if worse comes to worst you can always make your own. ; )

Thanks for the replies, folks! Not really interested in making my own, much more interested in finding it again when I next visit. It also doesn't matter if it has real whisky or just flavoring, I found the concept intriguing, tried it, loved it, and would simply like to find another place to stop by and get a scoop or two.....so I guess I should re-word my final statement in my OP to "Does anyone know where I could go during our visit to Scotland, preferably Edinburgh vicinity, to enjoy this treat once again".

I bow to Robin's searching. I added the word "purchase" and "edinburgh to my search and not only found Robert Graham, but also a list of hotels, restaurants and, of course Whisky Heritage Centre as local businesses that sell whisky ice cream. I'll have to try it on my next visit. I never quite dared to try the garlic ice cream at the Gilroy Garlic Festival.
