Which Norwegian fjord tour is best?

Kate, Just got back from Norway and did Norway in a Nutshell. It is an amazing day but was the most 'touristy' part of my trip. I used the Nutshell as a car-free way to get from Oslo to Bergen (I had a car rental reservation waiting for me after my stay in Bergen.) The Nutshell had Disneyland lines (without the forced smiles). To do it all in one day involves a lot of luggage hauling and pressing through crowds of tourists. This was exacerbated by construction at Oslo station that required taking a bus to the first train leg. If I had it to do over again, I would either fly to Bergen and pick up the car and see the Sognefjord that way or, if car rental is not an option, I would break up the Nutshell tour, overnight in one of the fjord towns. You see amazing things on the Nutshell, but it in spots it is a bit of a slog. Can't comment on the Sognefjord Nutshell, since the Norway Nutshell is the major product on tap, Sognefjord Nutshell might be less crowded, maybe a little more relaxed. Either way, if you have the time in your itinerary, break up the trip betw Oslo and Bergen. Otherwise, sorry to sound negative, the things you'll see on the Sognefjord are spectacular, no matter how you get there. You're going to love it, this was my first time in Norway and of all of the countries I've visited, Norway is simply the most beautiful. Give yourself as much time as you can and bring an extra memory chip for your camera -- you'll fill it up fast.

Thanks, Francis. I plan on doing the tour as a round-trip, one day excursion from Bergen, so I won't have any luggage with me, but won't have the time to stay in any towns along the fjord. What is appealing about the Sognefjord tour is you are on the boat for longer than Norway Nutshell and it obviously hits Sognefjord. But the fjords included in Norway in a Nutshell seem great too.
