Which London Neighborhood Base? Westminster, Mayfair, Paddington?

We would like to be able to walk around at night to some moderately priced eateries. Anyone stayed at Royal Park Hotel in Paddington or Chesterfield Mayfair? Thoughts? Thanks.

We stayed in a B & B in the Bayswater area just south and west of Paddington. There are several shopping arcades in that area with several moderate priced eateries. One of our favorite things to do was to shop at the Deli and bring back a feast to our room...that way we could put our feet up after a day of touring drink some wine and watch the teley. It depends on how old you are...we were early 50's and we felt really old in some of the night time pubs and winebars hangouts. I'd reccomend eating a nice lunch or having tea in the afternoon instead. Otherwise at dinner you're paying twice as much for the same food you can get at home.

Chesterfield Mayfair is in a great location, near Regent, Bond and Piccadilly streets. However it is a 4 star hotel- not consistent with "moderately priced eateries'. There are a number of good restaurants close by, but for moderate price you would need to do ethnic or pubs. A number of convenient sandwich shops for lunch. Fantastic location for walking to a bunch of the major sights. Walk along either Piccadilly or Regent street and you are at Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square. (Or walk though Green park to Buckingham and St James palace) We have stayed close by and found it very conveneint . Close enough you can go back for an afternoon rest and yet convenient to go to theater or restaurant at night. Close to a number of good Tube stations on Piccadilly line In my mind more conveneint for sightseeing than virtually any other location in London
