Hi,
My wife and I are going to London at the end of June for leisure and to watch Wimbledon. We are using reward points for our hotel. The choices are the Le Meridien Piccadilly or the Sheraton Park Lane hotel. Both are supposed to be upscale hotels, but Tripadvisor reviews give the Sheraton 3 stars and Le Meridien 3.5 stars, most writing that the level of service wasn't up to par.
I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the 2 hotels and could give me advice (if staying at le meridien is worth 12000 starwood points/night vs 10000/night for the sheraton). Thank you in advance!
RK
I personally do not have experience with either hotel, but a friend did stay at the Sheraton and enjoyed her stay very much and loved the location. The Sheraton is a five minute walk to either Hyde Park Corner or Green Park tube stations...at either station take the Piccadilly Line to South Kensington station...change there to the District Line to Wimbledon.
Well, after you read the Tripadvisor reviews you know know what to expect.
I'm sure that you realise that under 4 on there is >>>>EDIT: not (oops, sorry) End edit<<<< really very good. If the level of service matters not, I would expect you will be fine at either. In Piccadilly you have better connections. You can have a short walk to either Piccadilly Circus or Green Park onto the Piccadilly Line, change Earls Court for the District Line to Wimbledon.
From Park Lane its a slog to either Marble Arch on the Central Line, change at Notting Hill Gate for District Line, or hike to Hyde Park Corner for the Piccadilly Line and Earls Court as above.
For when you're not heading to see the tennis (take an umbrella, enjoy strawberries and Pimms) Green Park also has the Jubilee Line and the Victoria, Piccadilly Circus also has the Bakerloo.
Piccadilly is a little more convenient, there is good Tube to anywhere and good shopping/walking/window shopping along Regent Street, Bond st and Piccadilly. Park Lane is a 15-20 minute walk to Piccadilly Circus, but you can drift through Mayfair on the way. So a little less convemient, but great if you want to wander though Green Park or Hyde park
Thank you guys for your great advice! It appears that Le Meridien would work out best for us.
