In a way it does not matter, but since British Air rules Heathrow, might be best to go with them. The main thing though I look for after price is schedule. I like to get there early morning.

I would go with British Air or Virgin. But basically, schedule is going to be your decision point here, I think. Of the others, I would choose United or Delta over American Air. I haven't flown Iberia.

Virgin has better in flight entertainment system. If I'm going to be awake & uncomfortable in a coach class seat, there better be a decent movie to watch!

As others have said, everything else being equal, chose whoever has the best schedule to suit your needs. But, you might keep in mind that BA seems to have work slow downs or strikes around holidays and busy travel periods. My husband and I got caught in one and BA's response to all of us stranded at Heathrow left alot to be desired. Since then we have flown Virgin and United and have been very pleased. Also, if you need a bit more leg room on the long flight, compare what the upgrade to "Economy Plus" on United would be versus the other carriers.

I really like the morning flights ... the ones that leave in the morning and arrive the same day. You don't have to lose a night's sleep on a plane. BA and AA have morning flights out of JFK, Virgin and UA each have one out of Newark. However, it sounds like you are going to both London and Paris. If so, don't fly R/T to London. Instead fly NYC to LON and home PAR to NYC. Use the multi-city option to search for flights.

Without a doubt Virgin and then BA. There is a reason that the american carriers never win any awards. Virgin and BA won't nickel and dime you to death for movies, drinks, luggage, etc. Check Seatguru.com for the best seat to sit in when you do decide on which flight/ plane you will take.

Virgin airlines. Search the Graffiti Wall on this website for ideas for your Paris accommodation OR scroll down and read replies to same question that have been previously posted. Still advise you to purchase and read Rick's guide books on London and Paris. SO beneficial. Loaded with practical advice that will come in handy.

Did you check their baggage policies (if that matters to you). Some will still give you 2 bags free, others may charge you. I flew BA last November and after I booked the flights online, I found out that they charge $50 per LEG to pre-book seats. Then when I went back a month or two later, they had raised the price even more. In the end I got the seats I wanted by being among the first to to online check-in (24 hours in advance). I did keep watching and it didn't look like many people were paying for early seat selection. That would be ok for you if you have internet access on the day before your return flight.

All other things being equal, can you choose the seats you want? No one wants to be stuck in the center of the middle row.

so at first i booked virgin. then i saw you are only allowed to take only 1 carry on that has to weigh no more than 13 lbs. wth?! the bag i want to carry on is a small wheel suitcase wich i always use as carry on and but it in the over head bin. they dont have overhead bins?! so i looked for british air you can carry on 2 items, so i can put my suitcase in their in cabin locker and put my purse under the seat in frount of me but...the return flight was in the evening. So i chose delta, i hate delta but i can bring both of my bags, thank goodness i booked with travelocity and cancel that flight with no fees and full refund and booked the delta flight :)

Virgin does have overhead bins, and you are allowed one-carry on that can go there PLUS your purse that can go under the seat in front of you.

I look for schedule and then for long flights in-flight entertainment at each seat instead of the overheard movies. Also book early not to get a middle seat.

thats odd. i went to virgin atlantic website and looked at their baggage for carry on and it just said you can carry on 1 bag and it has to be 13lbs or less. they mentioned the measurements for the biggest bag u can bring on board which was the same size of my suitcase, but they said u have to store it under the seat in front which i dont want to do because i want leg room. i typed in virgin in this sites seach engine and a lot of people were saying its true they only allow one bag but they dont really wiegh it to see if its 13lbs. they also said some other airlines have the same restrictions as well.

a link from 2 years ago may not be current. Also, having just read the entirety of that thread I don't see a preponderance saying that it is not weighed. That would be a big gamble.

Consider flying on the airline that has a hub near your hometown. They'll likely have the largest number of flights. In addition, you'll get a nice chunk of miles for a flight to Europe, so you want to start saving miles with an airline that's useful to you. For me, for example, my closest airport is Minneapolis, where Delta has a hub. Thus, it's generally Delta for our flights to Europe. Have a great trip!

@ mary. that is true. i have delta miles but ive been staying away from them from my u.s travels because they r the worst when it comes to connecting flights. but i chose delta because it was a good deal and im adding miles to my delta miles acct. so in a way i got something out from it. haha
