What would the suggestion be for a place to stay as our last night in the UK. We will be driving down from the Lakes district and turning in our rental car at Heathrow before flying home. Is the Cotswold area too far?
What time does your flight leave?
Cotswolds are WAY too far! Think about London- the Paddington area. Or consider Windsor.
Thanks for the info...I think we will have adjusted our schedule to allow for 2 days to drive down from the north. we will look for a place near Heathrow and drop off the car that night , and take public transportation to the airport. Hopefully that will work well. any suggestions for the immediate Heathrow area?
If you're looking for a convenient airport hotel, I recommend the Jury's Inn.It's a three or four year old hotel right on the perimeter of the airport, a three minute walk from the Hatton Cross Tube station on the Piccadilly line. The hotel is just past the roundabout outside the station, about 100 yards further on the Perimeter Road. Don't bother dragging your luggage up and back down the steps of the pedestrian overpass--at the corner there are grade-level pedetrian crossings. The hotel is on the Hoppa Bus circuit and also has its own bus to Heathrow, but I found it easier to retrace to the tube station--Terminal 4 is the first stop, and Terminals 1-3 the second on the line.
The rooms are immaculate, inoffensively decorated, with comfortable beds, bath and shower, and plenty of smallish towels. Triple glazed windows means you hardly hear the planes. There's a restaurant and bar on site, but the food is mediocre. If you want, you could take the tube into town for dinner.
On my way to Heathrow I remember seeing a Premiere Travel Inn not too far frm the airport. Go online and see how far (or close) it is.
Stayed at the Heathrow Premier Travel Inn two years ago and it was great. Close to airport with shuttle from hotel. Restaurant on-site with inexpensive menu. And a very good price.
try one of the hotels on the Northern Perimeter Road it's close to most of the dropoff points for hire cars - and then after droppin off the car you can get the free bus to your terminal:)
I stayed at Heathrow Lodge near the airport. They have a shuttle service to/from Heathrow, so you could turn in your car and get a lift from LHR to the Lodge, then back to the airport for your flight. It is about a 10 minute shuttle ride. You can take a bus from LHR to Windsor Castle or a bus & train ride from the Lodge to Windsor. By train, it is only a few minutes from Slough to Windsor. Eton and Legoland are also near Windsor.
