Where to stay North of Dublin/Bru na Boinne

Hello all-
At the tail end of our trip to Ireland this summer, our plan is to spend the final two nights somewhere north of Dublin in order to visit Bru na Boinne and possibly the Ring of Tara on our last full day in Ireland, and then fly out of Dublin the next day. Rick recommends Trim as a homebase, but we're open to anywhere in the general area, and would welcome suggestions both in terms of towns and specific hotels or B&Bs.
Also, we're not planning on doing very many organized tours during our trip, but have heard excellent things about the tours of Bru na Boinne, especially that they guarantee access to the vault. But all of the tours I've seen recommended seem to leave from Dublin only. Does anyone have any suggestions for Newgrange tours that have pickups elsewhere? Thank you!

I would highly recommend a B&B in Navan, called Killyon (www.killyonguesthouse.ie). It is a beautiful little house overlooking a river, right on the Dublin road (about 30 min or so from Dublin). They have won all kinds of awards. It's very centrally located to where you want to be. I have not had a problem getting into Newgrange, but I travel in the off season, so I have never considered a tour. Many people do highly recommend them, though.
