Where to stay in London?

Wife and daughter in London for 5 days excluding travel days - 11/27 to 12/1 - primary interests to attend a couple of musicals and shop. Any ideas on reasonable places to stay - hotel or B&B - that would allow them to be close to theaters and explore London (aka shop) on foot?
Thanks,
Richard

Richard, the above web site lists an apartment in London. Just click on "all apartments" and scroll to the very bottom to "Chelsea Apartments". This rental company is based in the USA. There's a toll free number you may call. They are very helpful and if you decide on an apartment, you will have the apartment key before you leave Oregon.
Have a great trip! P.

Check Rick's England or London Guidebooks - there are lots of listings for Hotels, etc. in various price ranges.

Please, please, please check out the Montague on the Gardens. They have wonder packages and so many 'tack on' items. [ie, full english breakfast, tea, conceirge use, taxi at door, pre-theatre dinner and/or dinner one night in ***** resturant on site]. It is in Bloomsbury section; across the street from the British Museum. Wonderful walking to Covent Gardens/Theatre district. Prices appear on the mid-high end...but look for the deals...call the hotel direct and see what other offers they have. We will return in a heartbeat. The staff was so accomodating. This was recommended by a female friend that does business in London...they actually provide 'female safe rooms'. Don't pass this one up. We shopped, walked, attended the Sadler Wells Ballet, and 2 other shows.
-> Forgot to mention - the concierge got us orchestra seats for Wicked - in 2 hours! the show was SRO at that point!!

The Westland Hotel. In residential Notting Hill area on Bayswater Rd., across the street from Kensington Gardens. Three tube stops within 10 minute walk can connect you anywhere; bus stops are right in front. Many restaurants nearby. Whiteley's Mall, 5 minutes walk, has a movie theater, many shops and restaurants. Portobello Market 15 min. walk.

Rooms are large by London standards, and immaculate, as are the en-suite bathrooms. Large lounge on ground floor. Good breakfast. Staff is very helpful.

Our room on the top floor had a small patio from which we looked across Kensington Gardens, and could see the London Eye on clear nights.

The Westland is terrific, and a good value.

We prefer the Victoria Station area for over all convenience. In that area the Lime Tree is very nice but sometime hard to get a reservation. The Winchester is our back up. Victoria Station is across the street from the Apollo and Wicked. And everything is walkable from Victoria Station --- some long walks.

The Luna & Simone a couple of blocks from Victoria Station. Great reviews on Trip Advisor.

Hugh Street right behind Victoria station(and the surrounding streets) are full of B&Bs. They are usually around 50-55 pounds a night for 2. Nice walk past Buckingham Palace to get to the West End for plays and Piccadilly for shopping. The best one we stayed at was in Rick Steves Book. I think it was Cherry Court Hotel on Hugh.

Aston's Apartments is a great place to stay in London if you want to be close to transportation and within walking distance to shopping, restaurants, etc. The accomodations are not posh by any means but they are clean and serviceable. They are serviced apartments so you have the ability to make simple meals as well which can save you a ton in London. Grocery shops are within walking distance as well. The V & A, Science Museum and the Natural History Museum are "up the road" within walking distance. Give it a try!
