we have a time share and can choose to stya near St Paul's church or near Hyde Park and/or Kensington area. Which is the nicest area?

Definitely Kensington/Hyde Park.
There's nothing wrong with the St. Pauls/City/Barbican area but it's a business area.

I, too, would say Hyde Park/Kensington. Lots of great places to walk to, and eat and drink at. You're never too far away from anything in London with the Tube.
