My daughter and I are traveling to Bergen, Norway next August and I'm having problems finding a place to stay at anything resembling a reasonable price. Any suggestions?
Have you checked out the Rick Steves Scandinavia Guide book. We used it when we were there including our stay in Bergen. I wish I could remember the hotel's name we stayed in because we are not spendy folks. I do remember it was a Scandinavian chain hotel that I joined their "frequent guest program" so that we got a discount.. I found Bergen very expensive and I am use to the prices here in Hawaii. Good luck. Beautiful place and people.
Thon Hotel, Bergen, Norway. charlie
I have Rick's Norway book (I won't plan a trip without his books) but the reviews I've seen for the Thon hotels in Bergen aren't good and their prices are high.
Has anyone stayed at the YMCA Hostel in Bergen?
We really liked the Hotel Park in Bergen. Be aware that Norway is probably the most expensive country in Europe. Bargains are scarce.
Hotel chains usually have some summer discounts, like 1 night free when paid for 4.
There are some apartment possibilities.
August is beginning of end high season, book early.
We've stayed at a few places in Bergen, but the last time we were there we couldn't find rooms and ended up finding a room at CityBox. I believe we walked from the train station. It's very basic (no tv) and some rooms have private bath and some do not. We were not able to get a room with bath, and found that the external private baths served only a couple of rooms each, and were super clean. The shower rooms were also only steps from the door, and clean and private as well. I was a little leary, but now that I've been there, would stay again to save some money.
We stayed at the Strand Hotel in Bergen. It overlooks the fish market and smelled a little fishy, but is very conveniently located with great views and had a good breakfast.
