We will be flying out of Aberdeen on Saturday Jan. 7, after time at a workshop elsewhere. Where is a good place to stay, inexpensive, close to the airport, and that we can reach by train or bus? We are new to traveling in Europe.
Where are you traveling from and by what means? There is a rail station at the airport where there are several hotels. The airport is only 7 miles from the city center with bus, taxi and rail between if you stay in the city. Booking.com shows 40 hotels with prices for a double from $50 to $100, many with breakfast included.
We will be coming from the Findhorn (Forres) area on Friday afternoon, probably by train but we are completely new to this, so not sure. If we stayed in the city away from the airport how easy is it to get to the airport early, like 6 a.m.? Are the prices better away from the airport? I found a hotel this morning close to the airport, nice looking and great I'm sure, for 90 pounds ($139). Was hoping to find something for less that was adequate. Appreciate your response.
nice looking and great I'm sure, for 90 pounds I can't help with Aberdeen but £90 is not a great deal of money for a British airport hotel.
There's a train station at Forres, 5 miles from Findhorn. It takes about two hours to Aberdeen and costs about USD 24. There's a bus running between Inverness and Aberdeen, but it doesn't appear to stop at Forres. Besides, its a 5 hour ride and costs USD 64. Go to http://www.booking.com/country/gb.en.html and type in ABZ (Aberdeen Dyce airport code) as your destination. Right now they're showing 43 hotels to choose from and can book from their site.
Aberdeen is an oil town and I've often found the hotel prices higher than elsewhere in Scotland. Ask the hotel or B&B about the best way to the airport.
To GARY... thank you so much! The advice and the link were perfect... I booked a hotel for 40 pounds/night 1/2 mile from the airport, from the link you posted. Very much appreciated! Thank you! And thanks to everyone who took the time to post.. really appreciate it! LINDA
Hi Sorry i didn't catch your post before you booked. Everywhere's near the airport - it's not a big place! There are lots of lovely B&B. One nice independent hotel is The Atholl, but it may be more than you want to pay. We have out own microeconomy which depends on the oil ... You'll be entering the oil capital of Europe with the world's biggest heliport! Have a good time in Forres. (Bring your gloves, scarf and hat)

Thank you Susan! Yes, wish I had got your post earlier, but I think we'll be in a good place. Anything else we should look for if we arrive on Friday in time to see Aberdeen? Suggestions for a good place for supper/evening meal? (Not sure what term you use... :)
It'll not be brilliant for site-seeing - dark (we're far north) and possibly raining at least some of the time ( it's the uk) ... A nice meal would be good. What kind of food do you like? Pub, bistro, more formal, foreign (? Kind)? Travel will involve a taxi if you're out of the city.
S Ps the train from forres is very simple and safe. The train-station is fine ( as is the bus station) just cold. Just be VERY careful about the slippy floor in the train station when it's wet. There should be airport buses, but i've never looked into that. Taxis are available and there is a rank at the train station - they run an odd contract service at the train-station so it can involve waiting for ages ( esp when a big london train comes in). Taxis are expensive from the station to the airport ??? £20-25 but strictly licenced.
