Where to go in the Scandinavian countries in 6 days?

Hello all! My Mom and I are arriving in Oslo, Norway on the 21 April and leaving on the 26 April for Vienna, Austria. Our itinerary is open for these 6 days. If you have 6 days in the Scandinavia, which countries would you visit and what things would you recommend to do? Thank you for any tips!

With so little time, I'd stay in Norway. You don't say what time you are arriving on the 21st or if you are coming from the US and might be jetlagged. Regardless, you only have four full days. I would spend whatever time you have on the 21st as well as the 22nd in Oslo. On the 23rd, I would fly to Bergen in the morning. Spend the rest of the day plus the 24th in Bergen. On the 25th, take the Norway in a Nutshell tour back to Oslo -- that will give you a taste of the fjords and mountains. As an alternative, you could leave Bergen on the 24th and spend a night (the 25th) in Balestrand on the fjord.

I'm hardly a Norway expert, but based on what little I saw on my trip there in 2003, I agree 100% with Carroll. I loved Bergen, and while I wasn't as taken with Oslo, there certainly are interesting things to see in 2 days there (the museums at Bygdøy, the Munch museum, the Resistance Museum, City Hall). And Norway in a Nutshell, as the name says, shows you lots of scenery; you go up and down mountains and into a fjord (it combines trains, buses and boats). Details of these places, how to get between them, where to stay, and what to do once there are found in Rick Steves Scandinavia or Rick Steves Snapshot Norway. If you really insist on seeing another country, you could fly to Stockholm, or fly or take an overnight boat to Copenhagen. But I don't think that makes as much sense as Carroll's plan.

It really depends on what you like. If you like scenery, it's hard to beat Norway. Oslo is an okay city, we liked Frogner Park and the Viking Ship Museum, you may also like the City Hall, Opera House, Nobel Center, or Akershus. You should do the Norway in a nutshell tour and add at least one night halfway to see what Norway is really famous for. With 6 days for anywhere in Scandinavia, I'd opt for Stockholm, because you can see it plus ferry to Helsinki and Tallinn easily in six days, or Copenhagen, which IMO has the most to see and do in Scandinavia. Since you are starting in Oslo, however, I think the best suggestion is to stay there and see the area.
