Where to go for traditional English Tea in London

Hi All! I am looking for suggestions on where to go for a traditional English tea experience while in London. My husband and I will be there during the last week of September. Thanks!

I used to live just outside of London and was able to splurge once. We had afternoon tea at the Savoy Hotel. It was amazing and if I remember correctly, it was newly done over. It was perfect for doing tea and then heading to the theatre. evan

We booked ahead to have afternoon tea at the Dorchetster Hotel. What an experience. Quite upper crust. Another very popular place to have a traditional afternoon tea is the Orangery at Kensington Palace.

It depends on how much you want to spend.....The Ritz, The Brown, The Dorchester and Fortnum & Mason all would be around £80.00 for two. The Orangery at Kensington is very pretty inside and tea for two would be around £24.00. We always have tea at The Orangery when we are in London and enjoy it every time. If you look on The Dorchester website..the afternoon tea is £35.50 per person...if you want something fancier then they have a Champagne Afternoon Tea for £45.50 pp and a Mad Hatter Afternoon Tea for £49.00 pp.

For the record, afternoon tea at the Dorchester, which included a fashion show, was £108. I believe that we booked this tea online well in advance. We usually budget 1-2 over-the-top meals or activities on our 3-4 week trips. Tea at the Dorchester was one of these well-planned activities.

I've been collecting recommendations for my upcoming trip. Add these lower-priced options: .....Bea's of Bloomsbury (only sweets during the week, you can add savories on the weekends for 3 pounds extra) . .. ... The Wolseley (Piccadilly) ..... National Gallery ...... British Museum

We enjoyed the Orangery at Kensington. It was good and reasonably priced. It is not over-the-top fancy, so if that is what you are looking for this would not be a good choice.

I met a friend a few years ago for afternoon tea in the Georgian Restaurant at Harrods. We lingered for 2 hours and the waiter just kept filling our teapot and offering us scones. I just looked it up and it's now £24 (just over $37 at today's exchange rate). For an experience alone, it's worth every penny. And the scones are really good, too.

Harrod's for tea is outstanding and worth every penny of the cost. Actually, you could consider it lunch as the waiter just continues to refill your tea tray of goodies. The tea was wonderful!!

I agree with others, Harrods is a lovely place to have tea..I forgot to include Harrods in my earlier post. And the price is reasonable.

We liked tea at the National Gallery. But don't miss the specialty orange cake at The Orangery at Kensington. I'm still trying to find the recipe until I can get back there next year!

The Orangery at Kensington Palace! Absolutely must! Great tea and atmosphere. They do a proper tea and there is usually a line[INVALID] but definately worth the wait.

My husband and I are in our 60's. We visited London in May, 2009 and in May of this year. We totally enjoyed having high tea upstairs in Harrod's. They also have an outstanding lunch buffet there for another visit. The surroundings are beautiful. We also ate another lunch at the fish counter on the street level. It was delicious. Our high tea was one of our favorite things we did in London this time.
