We have 2 days in early Sept 9-11th.base out of London ,and would like to train up to Scotland or fly to Ireland. For a brief look about..already have plans for London., just want to include other part of Great Britain we have never seen before...already been to Cotswold and Bath...suggestions ???
Flying eats up so much time. The airports are not exactly close to the city, then add in the security/check-in time. . . What about by train to the lake district or York?
Dover/Canterbury, Brighton/Portsmouth, Corwall, or York.
London only. That's like saying "I have 2 days in Chicago, should I fly to Toronto or NY for a peak?" Too much.
As I read the question, th etwo days are in addition to the time they have in London. You could take the New Caledonian Sleeper from London, and wake up in the Scottish Highlands: http://www.seat61.com/WestHighlandLine.htm Spend the day around Fort William or Inverness, then head to Edinurgh for a night, and then return to London.
Since you already have plans for London and have already been to Bath, then I would do a day trip to York (approximately 2 hrs. each way). If you can handle a second day trip the next day, then something closer to town - Windsor or maybe Oxford or Cambridge.
As much as I love Ireland, only having two days there won't even be worth the time to fly there. Stick closer to London - Windsor, Brighton, Stratford.
