We will be attending a convention in Manchester, then traveling on our own for two weeks afterwards. We won't need our dressy clothes then, so thought of packing them in a suitcase and leaving it in Manchester to pick up again before our flight home. The left luggage at the airport charges over $10 per day -- anyone have any other ideas?

You could ship the suitcase home ahead of you. American Express offices used to offer such a service (it's how I got rid of my winter clothes when I was spending a spring semester abroad and no longer needed them). There are probably other shipping options as well, like FedEx or the post office.
Thought Picadilly station was an option, just rung and its £6 per item per 24hours.
