Where besides London?

I am flying to London in March 20 of next year and fly out the 31. I'm going to spend most of the time in London, but would like to spend 3 or 4 nights at the beginning of my trip some place else. I was thinking maybe York or Bath. Maybe the Cotswolds. Any ideas?

You can easily take the train to Bath, for the day. We also took a bus tour day trip to the Cotswolds. We used Gray Line, which subcontracts it out in London. The bus day trips allow you to stay at one hotel and just do day trips outside of London. We also took the train to Oxford for the day and to Cambridge.

The Cotswolds would be my first choice. Lots of great B&B's and small hotels, typical English Cottages, and the Cotswold Way walking path if you feel like hiking. Peace and quiet. My second choice would be York, with its grand York Minster and city walls. Lots to see in York. Lots of interesting Viking and Roman Britain history there.
