Where's the best area in London to look for a hotel for fun

I am travelling to London for 3 days in September with my wife and 2 others. We plan to hit up the sights during the day but want to hit the bars at night. Does anybody have any advice on where the best place to look for a hotel that would be in the middle of a cool bar area and still close to trnsportation? Any advice would be appreciated.

I know nothing about where a "cool bar area" is in London, but there are a lot of great pubs around central London. Check the 'Fancy a Pint' website to see where the best ones are. And considering that the tube runs until midnight, you could probably stay in the Victoria Station area (central and close to a lot of sights).
