Hi Everyone- I will be traveling in Scotland between from Islay to Oban and then up to Inverness in October this year. We have 3 days of travel from Oban to Inverness and will have a rental car. What are must see/do things in the area? We love hiking, would love to see castles, scotch, etc. Also, recommendations on B&B or farms to stay at would be great.
Jeff, We have been to Islay six times. Let me know if we can help. Monte Steiger
The drive from Oban to Inverness is a beautiful one. You'll drive up the shore of Loch Linhe. You might want to stop in Fort William and Glen Nevis. This is lovely Glen and you could do a short walk. The movie Rob Roy was filmed here. It's beautiful Glen. Then you'll head further northeast. At Spean Bridge you veer north. Stop at the Commando Memorial. The views of Ben Nevis are great. Also, this is where the WWII commandos trained. It's very evocative of the times and trials that they went through. Continue north. I would recommend veering west for a detour along Loch Garry. OMG it is beautiful and peaceful. Take the small road as far as the road will let you along the shore and then go back. You can follow the A837 to the A887 which will link you up with the main north shore road along Loch Ness. Stop and enjoy Urquhart Castle. It has a great visitor center. This is a long day. But a great one. Pam
