Three of us are planning a trip to Ireland in 2013 and are trying to work up a budget. I plan on delving into some research but thought I would try here also to see if anyone had a ballpark number. We plan to rent a car, stay in modest lodgings and eat as cheaply as we can - maybe one meal "out" per day. Thank you!
A hundred bucks per person per day, easy. Probably a good hunk less since the car and gas will be a three-way split.
Thank you, Ed. Any idea if cost varies between southern Ireland or Northern Ireland? We're leaning toward the latter....
There's not really any difference. Belfast is cheaper than Dublin by a bit. Both economies are in the tank. And what I forgot before was I'd assumed all three people would sleep in the same room. If not and a room is say sixty bucks then two folks cough up thirty each per night and the other has the full sixty. I also gut-shot the car for a full week, a shorter-term rental would up the daily cost a bit, but then there'd be days with no car (but maybe public transportation). We spent a month in the ROI and NI - - I think the average was under one ninety and we were traveling about the way you describe. I went back to NI for a few days alone and averaged a bit over one twenty five but didn't have anybody to split the car costs with - - but I also stayed in places that my minder probably would not have. If I went back again, it'd be to Northern Ireland.
All good information - thank you! We are planning to share accommodations - learned a long time ago that's the way to go to save money. I appreciate your time. Hope you make it back to Ireland again! Susan
