What area to stay in at Cotswold

I'm staying in Bath for 2 nights then taking the madmax tour to cotwold and being droped off there to stay the night. Does anyone know the best town to stay in that there will be things to do? I'm taking the train to Oxford from there. I know on the Rick Steves tour they stay in Stow on the wold is that the best?

Well there aren't a lot of activities in any of the Cotswold towns, but Stow and Moreton in Marsh both have good bus connections to the rest of the area, as well as grocery stores and shops. I have always stayed in Stow, mostly because they have a great hostel and is pretty central.

One of my favorite things to do is rent a bike (available in Stow or Moreton) and check out the countryside. If you'll only be there for one night though, I'd stay in Moreton in Marsh so you can catch the train the next day. Stow does not have a train station.

Check out www.the-cotswolds.org for tons of great information about the area.

The Cotswolds cover an area roughly 100 miles in length so there are myriad towns and villages to visit all with unique things to see/do. I believe the Mad Max tour returns you to Bath. From there you could take a coach or train to another destination. Please check http://www.nationalexpress.com/home/hp.cfm and http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ for times and destinations.

Also, how long do you plan on staying in the Cotswolds? Some villages can be seen in a day. Transportation between the towns can be tricky without a rental car. I have used local bus services and it has worked out but you have to do a lot of research and base yourself in a place that has a lot of connections to the other towns/villages. I would be happy to help further if you want to PM me.

Hi Mike, you will have to get the train to Oxfor in Moreton-in-Marsh. Moreton-in-Marsh would be a good town for you to stay in. The bus goes a lot of places from there. Bourton-on-the-Water is another beautiful village that you could stay in. When taking the bus fro Bourton-on-the-Water you will have to change buses a lot of times in Moreton-in-Marsh.

In June we stayed in Morton-in-Marsh above a pub. The walls were thick so we didn't hear much pub noise at night and it was a nice place to visit with people in the evenings. We took the train and bus everywhere with no problems at all, everthing in town was easy walking. Stratford Upon Avon, with Warwick, train and bus. Oxford and Blenhiem, were easy on the train with the bus. Another just bus day touring the Cotswolds. Morton-in-Marsh seemed to be a perfect base just get currant scheudles for bus and train at the great TI in town, they were wonderful and they let you use the internet to check your e-mail free.
