Week in Scotland during last week of March

We are traveling to Scotland during the last week of March. I am planning to be in the Edinburgh and Inverness. Should I be visiting Oban and the highlands or leave it for another trip since it is winter. Any advise on the places and schedule will be helpful.

Why don't you look into taking the train across to Oban from Edinburgh? You will get to see Scotland in a way most of us haven't. Take your long handles. You will see lots of snow. I don't know your schedule but conceivably you could go from Edinburgh to Oban to Glasgow, and back to Edinburgh. The train from Glasgow to Edinburgh takes an hour. The train from Fort William to Glasgow takes a little more than an hour. We haven't been on the others. A rough Guide to Scotland will be helpful.

Uk weather is impossible to predict. Regardless, because of geography west coast is milder than east coast (gulf stream). Also, west is wet. Lastly, higher (from sea level) and further from equator is colder. Thus, oban will probably rain and highlands will be colder in march (high up there'll still be snow).

If you are in Inverness, you are in the Highlands. If you want to take a day trip to the west coast, I would do it from Inverness. The train ride to Kyle of Lochalsh is one of the most beautiful train rides that you can take. Also, you can do a day trip to Aviemore to see the Cairngorms. Let us know your interests and we can make additional suggestions. Pam
