Walking St. Andrews Old Course

Has anyone walked the path around the edges of the old course? I read on the web site that there is some type of path that visitors can walk but it was not very clear. also any tips on parking in the town for free? Thanks!

The Old Course used to be closed on Sundays because of an old by-law. Today, it is closed to give the course a rest and carry out essential maintenance. It remains open for the public to walk on as they wish. There are public footpaths which line the edge of the courses. There are guided tours of the course.
Tours take place at 11am and 1.30pm starting at the St Andrews Links Golf Shop behind the 18th green of the Old Course. Check notice boards for next tour. Walks are scheduled for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in July and August. The tour takes approximately 50 minutes. Tickets cost £2.50 per person and should be purchased from the guide on the day. All tickets include a voucher for a complimentary Old Course scorecard With the Old Course busy for play six days a week throughout the summer months, this tour is a great way to see the historic Links from the centuries-old fairways, just as golfers from Old Tom Morrism.
