Voltage converter for travel in Ireland.

Hi, I am looking for a voltage converter to use with our laptop, camera battery charger, cell phone and GPS unit. I see a lot of different products out there with conflicting claims. Does anyone have a good suggestion on which converter to get for our trip to Ireland? Thank you in advance for any help or ideas on this.

Hi Andy, You need to look at the plugs you have on those items and check the voltage that will work on them. Most will say 110 to 240. If it does (and all of ours did) you simply need a plug converter that allows you to plug them into the wall. We had an iPhone, a Blackberry, an iPod touch (which is what our GPS was on, and 2 camera batteries to charge so we had 3 plug converters. The standard wall outlets are those "big heavy 3 plug outlets". We had plastic adaptors that we plugged into outlets and then plugged our chargers into them. Also we found a lot of bathrooms had 2-prong outlets for low voltage items (like shavers) so we had a 2-prong adaptor for that to charge one of our cameras. This was useful because most of the places we stayed (mainly B & B's but we did stay in 2 small hotels) didn't have a lot of outlets in the room. We also had our car charger with us and charged our phones & GPS while driving. We did not have a cell phone for use in Ireland though (I used my iPhone strictly for the internet). We talked about going to somewhere like the CarPhoneWarehouse & getting a cheap phone but we never really missed not being able to call around to B & Bs. There was only 1 night when we stayed somewhere without free wifi and lots of pubs/restaurants had it. You'd have to ask to get the password.

We bought a travel adapter at Walgreens which we use for an American hair straighter and also a laptop. Have been using it since Christmas and have had no problems...think it was under 15 usd.

Thanks Laura & Debe. I have checked all our chargers and they are all 110-240 and so I guess all we need is the plug adapters. That's great. I found a nifty little 3 outlet power strip (with even a USB port) at the local AAA store. So that question is answered and thank you for that. I just posted this question on the forum and perhaps you might have some thoughts about it. Amy & I are planning on taking the ferry from Rossaveel to spend the night on Inishmore. However, we are not wanting to lug all our luggage along with us on that trip. Do either of you know if there are any provisions for storing things at the ferry terminal in Rossaveel? Thank you again for all your help.
