Anyone familiar with Virgin trains from London to Glasgow? Please advise what is best train service to use. We will not have a Brit Rail or any rail card.
Thanks much, Kathy
Yes - they are the principal operator to Glasgow from London Euston. They use tilting pendolino trains which run at up to 125mph and tilt through the curvaceous sections of line. The route is quite beautiful at the northern end. Journey times are from 4h30. First class is pretty good, with free food and booze and use of the first class lounges at either end. Book in advance for the cheapest rates (which will tie you to specific trains). The main alternatives are East Coast from Kings Cross via Edinburgh, but the direct service is less frequent and a bit slower. The line is probably more scenic. Or, the overnight Scotrail sleeper. Or, a flight, of course... Mark
You will get very, very significant discounts (tickets just before the train leaves on that route will probably be over £100 single) if you book online at the Virgin website. Tickets go on sale around 12 weeks before travel. However, if you plan to travel to Glasgow the same day you fly into London, beware that the cheaper tickets are usually limited to a single train, and if you miss it you will have to pay full fare.
Sorry, kathy, don't get your question. If you have selekted Virgin between Euston and Glasgow that would be the best service. What exactly are you trying to answer?
