The most recent Rick Steves Scandinavia suggests that the house of emigrants in vaxjo may close in 2011. Their web site looks active but I can't confirm that. Does anyone know if it is still open as of May 2012?

I checked the Swedish language site. The information in Swedish doesn't match the information in English. Are you looking to do research or see an exhibit? For research, it indicates that they have limited hours during the vacation period from June 1 to August 31 and are only open Wed and Thurs from 10 to 16. They are also closed 16 - 18 May and June 6 for National Day. On the exhibition page, the Swedish language site indicates that as of Nov 2010, Kulturparken Småland has taken over the exhibit in the Utvandrarnas Hus and it refers you to either the website www.kulturparkensmaland.se or to telephone 0470-70 42 00. Here is the info on that site. http://www.kulturparkensmaland.se/1.0.1.0/14/1/ It appears to be open Tuesday to Sunday. However, I would suggest that you contact them to confirm though.
