Using Nook Tablet in London

Has anyone used the Nook Tablet in London? What do I need to bring to charge it up?

Linda, You'll need to check the Charger supplied with the Nook to determine whether it's designed for operation from 100-240 VAC. Look for the "Input Voltage" specifications that will be listed somewhere on the Charger. It's quite likely it's designed for "world operation", so you'll likely only need a U.K.-style Plug Adapter(three large rectangular pins) to use it in London. Happy travels!

You probably already know this, but just a reminder to make sure to download any books you want to read at home before you go, because you will be unable to download them in Europe.

Linda, As the others have pointed out, you likely won't be able to download any new material while you're in Europe due to the DRM. However, you should be able to use it for net access or whatever, provided it has a web browser. Regarding the Charger, as I mentioned earlier you can confirm the info that B&N gave you by checking the Charger to determine whether it's designed for operation from 100-240 VAC. If that's the case, you'll only need a U.K. Plug Adapter. Cheers!

I was just told by a Barnes & Noble Customer Service Rep. that the Nook Tablet can be used successfully used in London. The charges does handle the voltage and the flat 2 pin to round 2 pin adapter will enable me to charge the unit.
Any comments from Nook users?

I'm not a Nook user so perhaps my comments are not valid. Your B&N rep may not know all. Only Europe uses round pins. The UK does not. There are no plugs in England using two round pins. The British plugs are three rectangular pins in a triangle. Nook is not released for the UK and not sold here. Don't know if you can update it using wifi here if your IP address is UK. I would think that DRM might complain.

My wife was disturbed to discover that she could not download books overseas. B&N does look at your IP address (which is tied to your wifi connection) and determines where you are. Amazon does that as well, so it is not limited to the Nook. You can fool the web sites as to what IP address you are using, but that's a lot of trouble to download a book. You'll also need to take extra steps that may require the use of a computer and not a dedicated reading device. (Connecting to a VPN - Virtual Private Network - with a different IP address located back in the U.S., should anyone be interested.) So, I second the advice to download whatever you want before you go.

As has been said, you need your charger and a converter. I have taken my Nook Color to London twice and had no problems charging it. Though sometimes I lacked outlets. A three way plug that I plugged into my converter charged two cameras and my Nook with no problem. The real thing is to make sure you have enough books loaded to keep yourself amused and interested.
Have a wonderful time!

Kathy, do you need a converter? I'm surprised that your gadget needs one. Does your charger really not handle 240v? I didn't realize that Nooks only work on 115v.

I think she meant a plug adapter and not a voltage *converter." I've checked the specs, and it appears that Nook charger units can handle 115 and 240 volt electrical systems.
