Using cash in different countries

Mom and I went to Europe for the first time ever last October. It was great, and we're going again in October '09!

We stayed in England the whole time and over-budgeted a bit so that we were left with a few hundred pounds each in cash.

Are there any other countries in Great Britain that will accept my pounds sterling, or will I have to exchange it if I leave England?

The British pound is the official currency of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. (The rest of Ireland uses the Euro.)

Amy bank in Europe will change your British pounds into Euros or local currency (if not the Euro) very easily.

If you are going back in October, why wouldn't you just keep it for your next trip?

Thank you for the answers! Yes, I'm going to bring the cash I have when I go again in October and will visit one or more of the countries that accept it while I'm there.
