UK trip tips.

Hello, Just returned from a two wee whirlwind tour of England and Whales and wanted to answer some of the questions and things that I have read on here the last few months. 1) Driving: I strongly suggest that you get a good road atlas like RS suggests. I also strongly suggest that you get a good GPS device. Without the two I believe it will be very difficult to navigate. For me the road signs were more canfusing and the navigating much more difficult than I expected. Without those I may have been in trouble. Also study your road signs, and pay attention to which lane you are entering in a round about, if you are to exit the round about in the first couple exits stay in the first lane, if the 3rd to 5th exits enter from the further right lanes. Also some of the entering lanes have the names of the exits printed on them which is helpful. 2. People expressed concern about the 50 pound note. I used the old type without any problems at shops, BB, restaurants and attractions without problems. There may be some places that will turn them away but I did not experience that. 3. The Midevil dinner in London can be quite baudy with the costumes and may offend the american tastes of families with children. 4. Someone asked about a place for falconry. We went to Mid-Wales falconry and it was a wonderful experience. Kids got to feed the owls and the owner was most imformative. 5. The London eye is pretty cool but way overpriced. 6. The Hyde Park Christmas festival is really neat, beware of pick pockets, they have large neon signs warning you. I did not experience any of that though.

Glad to hear you had a good trip. It is so easy to navigate using only a road atlas, I have never ever had trouble using one. GPS's are good also, but I don't think it would be difficult at all to naviagate if you didn't have both.

Thanks for the tips. The driving tips, especially, reinforce what others have posted, but I, personally, like to know what others gain from personal experiences like this.
My question is: Why do the pickpockets carry large neon signs? Isn't that bad for business? :)

Great tips - thanks so much for sharing! Of course, now I have one more thing on my list for Wales.... Mid-Wales Falcontry! Sounds really cool.
