UK to Norway - How do I do it

I'll be in the UK during the summer and thought it would be fun to "jump" over to Norway for a "short" trip. Is there a ferry or must I fly there?

Fly with the airline SAS. To Bergen in Norway, from London Heathrow airport or Manchester airport or Newcastle airport.

You don't say where in UK you will be so it is difficult to give you specific suggestions. I use www.vayama.com when I want to figure out which airlines fly between two points. For example, through them I discovered Norwegian Air Shuttle which offers good fares from London/Gatwick, Manchester, and Edinburgh. You can also check www.directferries.co.uk to see what ferries travel from UK to various points in Europe. Ferries will involve much more travel time.

There haven't been any scheduled ferry services from the UK for a couple of years. The only ferry service now to Scandinavia is from Harwich to Esbjerg in Denmark, and that then requires a long train journey into Norway.

SAS is quite pricey - if you're on a budget try Norwegian (can be cheap if you are flexible on dates and it's the best for the west coast), or Ryanair (out of Stansted). About as no-frills as flying gets (no reserved seating, plastic seats and no free drinks/food) but it's only a couple of hours in the air so it's no big deal. Ryanair fly to Sandefjord's Torp airport which they disingenuously call Oslo (Torp), even though it's a good 65 miles away! That sounds bad but really it's not too terrible and there's a shuttle bus into Sandefjord for the trains up to Oslo plus a bus direct. The 'main' airport for Oslo is a good 25 miles north of the centre itself so there's a fair transfer which ever way you go in; make sure to allow for that.
