We will be in Bonn area in mid July and it is just my husband and myself. We have about 4-5 days free before we head to Italy. If you had a choice between anywhere in UK or Scandanavia where would you go and what would be "must sees"! Thanks for your input.
What is your priority? If it is jaw-dropping gorgeous scenery, go to Bergen and do a driving circle north and east through the fjords. If it is history and beautiful scenery, I would suggest northern England and Scotland.
I would try to stay close to minimize travel time. You might try Copenhagen and/or Stockholm. I like Stockholm better because it is so beautiful, but Copenhagen has a lot to offer as well and is closer.
Stockholm is beautiful in mid-July. You could fly to Stockholm and spend your time there. Add a trip to either Helsinki or Tallinn (spend two nights on the boat) and spend the rest of the time in Stockholm and around.
I also love Norway, but with only 4-5 days, I would probably save it for another trip.
We are into definitely gorgeous scenery. I have been viewing sites regarding the fjords and they are absolutely beautiful. If you have any info you would like to share regarding a trip from Bergen to Flam via ferry, that would be wonderful. Any recommendations as to where to stay while in Bergen would also be helpful?

The main transport route is "Norway in a Nutshell" which can be found on www.norwayinanutshell.com This basically starts and ends in bergen and is well coordinated. It includes some train travel and some time in the fjords. Very much a tourist express.
If you are looking to spend more time in the fjords or are not interested in train travel i would go the www.fjord1.no website and they have all the ferry schedules. We especially liked Balestrand.
I can't speak to Scandinavia, though I would love to visit there. If you aren't that concerned with going to London--where you could easily do a day trip and have a few days in the city--I would suggest Edinburgh. It is compact and has a lot to see in the city center. You could also do a day or half day trip out to Loch Lomand and Stirling, as I did, where you get a taste of Scotland. It is a long day trip, but you can do York from there as well.
