UK Customs ? Plus Getting GBP & Rail Info at MAN Airport

Hello, all & Happy Easter to those who celebrate Finally! My trip to England is just a few days away! TY to everyone who's been so helpful in the exciting months I've spent planning my solo journey. I am (unfortunately) flying to Dublin from the US and will arrive approx. 9:00. I don't depart for Manchester until around 14:00 (unfortunately). Both Aerlingus flights were booked separately (unfortunately) so I will probably have to collect my checked bag and tote it around with me (unfortunately). Will I need to clear customs in Dublin and then again in Manchester? Scheduled to arrive in Manchester at 15:00 on 3 Apr. Trying to figure out how quickly I might be able to get GB currency and make the train to Harrogate. Can't imagine what I'm going to do for 5 hours betwee flights but whatever that might be, I'm sure I'll have fun doing it. Thanks.

Hi Janet, I flew BOS to MAN in April 2012, but with a carry on only, so I cannot entirely help with your question. Arriving (bleary eyed :-) at Terminal 2, I first went through a ticket check, a passport check booth, and then security check, and then depending on the posted flight sign people either went up an escalator or down a hallway. I went up and spent the 5-6 hours between my own flights walking/sitting/doing a bit of shopping (T2 was lovely and new last year). In MAN, we went down outdoor stairs by the plane's side and were bussed around to the arrivals. I remember an ATM just on the other side of the doors to the arrival meetin area. The bank name was Raphaels Bank and I don't remember the exact wording, but it was Extremely persuasive that I ought to accept the conversion price and not select a button for "non-converted" funds. I was 99.9% sure it was the DCC (dynamic currency conversion), but the wording was so good it made me doubt myself, even though I did select non-converted. Conversion price: 1.68 Non-converted (once I got my statement at home to see): 1.58 I had a driver reserved to drive me to my B&B, but I do remember seeing signs for the train. Cheers.

No immigration to go through at MAN from DUB. You will go through immigration at DUB and customs. Your bag will be retagged with a green-striped label to show you then originated from within the EU. If Are Lingus allows you to through-check the bag, this would go through customs in MAN.
