U.K. Walking Holidays

We're interested in hiking U.K. trails particularly sections that link small communities. Perhaps alone the Pennine Way, Cotswald Way or?

A really good one is the Offa's Dyke Trail. It's something less than 175 miles, so you ought to be able to knock it off in week.

Timeout publishes a couple of books called "Country Walks near London". I have not looked at a recent edition, but they used to have some quite good walks. The guides had public transportation information, routes, and even pubs along the way where you could stop for lunch. You might look into these guides and see if they have any guides for areas further afield.

Last fall we walked 55 miles of the Cotswald Way, from the head of the Thames down towards Henley, staying in Cricklaide and Wallingford. On most days there were villages to explore and pubs to have lunch in. We used the following website to figure out lodging and the route: http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk . We also used the Walking in Britain book by Lonely Planet to choose the route, as it lists the various routes by length of miles, number of hiking days, difficulty of hike, etc. Deb

Hadrian's Wall National Trail is awesome. There are villages and/or pubs along the whole way, and lots of history.

I love hiking in Devon. Try the Two Moors Way. More "off the beaten path" than the Cotswolds. There are several other long-distance paths in Devon too.

Hi, you might also check the sherpavan website it runs a very good forum for most of the "big" national trails. I can recomend the Dales Way and Pennine Way. An unoffical trail worth looking at is the Cambrian Way
Happy hiking
