Tulla, Ireland Music Festival in September

Has anyone visited Ireland during the Tulla Music Festival--scheduled for September 12-14, 2008? Tulla is a tiny town--is there a larger town nearby that provides easy access to Tulla for accomodations and/or has anyone attended this festival? Here's the link for those who might be interested in attending--Tulla Festival

I haven't attended this festival, but I've attended similar festivals in Scotland. I went to google and enter the name. This website came up at the top.http://www.tullatradfestival.com/ There is a link on the page for accommodation. I would recommend staying close. The festival's I've attended have evening events and it's much nicer to walk home than try to drive. Also, in Scotland there is ale and in Ireland there will be Guinness, so walking is a good idea. THere was only one taxi in Tarbert when I went to that festival.

Hi Sharon,
I went to the festival last year (I live in Ireland), it was was great for me because I love the trad music,am trying to learn the fiddle and was able to sit in on a workshop with Martin Hayes, fabulous fiddler, and listened to him talk about his music all day. I was in heaven, he even played and taught a few tunes. I didn't even have my fiddle with me. I don't think this could have happened anywhere else.
No, there's not a larger town, its rural area, with lots of small towns around it. Lough Derg is nearby which is beautiful. Will you have a car?
I'd say its a very local event, and I mean that there are a lot of local musicians who will be around. There was a ceili (dance) one night, the music was great (again Martin Hayes played in the band) and watching the locals dance was amazing.

Thanks so much Mary Ann--I'm pleased to hear that it's a fun festival--just the type of local event that we're looking for--we want to go to the ceili as well! We will have a car and will check out Lough Derg--many of the B & B's we checked in Tulla are full so we'd like to look at other options. Is Ennis too far to drive back and forth for the 2 day festival?

Hi there. I have to admit to being biased but Tulla is a great little town in East Clare.

Check out www.tullaonline.com and you can see what is happening there on a regular basis there is also a section for Accomodation on the www.Tullaonline.com website and through the www.tullatradfestival.com website.

Last year we had a huge crowd turn out for the festival and there is pictures available on both websites. This year Tulla comhaltas is celebrating their 50th year in operation and as such they are hosting the Clare county fleadh this very weekend.

I know that accomodation is pretty limited but if you talk to Dorothy landers from the tullatradfestival.com then she will point you in the right direction for accomodation alternatively check out Ennis co Clare this is our nearest big town.

If you do come over for the festival you will not be dissapointed

Tell Dorothy i sent you
