Tube travel to Zone 3

We purchased a visitors card allowing unlimited travel for 3 days in Zones 1& 2...However we have now decided that we would like to see Kew Gardens. Can we get a one day extension allowing us to travel to Zone 3?

No problem, take a bus over the bridge. Remember, as TfL says you can use any Travelcard for, "Any (bus) service within Greater London regardless of the zone(s) the Travelcard covers". Change at Hammersmith for a 391 bus towards Richmond. A few minutes later you're rocking up at Kew Gardens. And, I think, that service is worked by a double decker. If so, sit upstairs and enjoy the wonderful view, over the river, past Kew Green, Kew Gardens on the right (what can you see before you get to the stop?).

However you get to Kew Gardens- think about taking the boat back. One of the exits takes you right to the dock. A relaxing and scenic way back to Westminster or wherever. Sorry dont know whether the boat is covered by any tube tickets- I dont thibnk so, but worth the experience

You get a discount if you use an Oyster card on the Thames cruise... not sure about a travel card NOT on an Oyster...

There are 5 major methods of Transport for London (TfL) travel in London. They are (1) The Underground, (2) Buses, (3) London Overground, (4) Riverboat, (5) Barclays Cycle Hire. ^ ^ ^ Number 5 is also known as Boris's Bikes, after the mayor who brought them in. Neither a Travelcard (T-card) nor an Oystercard (O-card) are valid to take one out, but a credit card will be soon. You'll see them all over zone 1, but they are brand new and only available to UK members for the moment. ^ ^ ^ Number 4 (not counting the Duck or the boats related to the HoHo bus). With a T-card you get 1/3 off scheduled boats. With a standard PAYG Pay as you go O-card, it is 10% off. With a Visitor O-card the Thames Clipper is part. ^ ^ ^ Number 3, the Overground, has orange as its colour on maps, is proper trains (done in pretty tight commuter seating) running on a few routes well outside the usual tourist areas. Included on O-cards and T-cards. On T-cards be sure you don't go outside of zone 2 if you only have zones 1 and 2. Normal National rail trains, same idea. If you have O-card don't go beyond zone 9 or 6. ^ ^ ^ Number 2, the buses - your T-card is valid on every "red" bus in London, regardless of which zone your T-card is for. On O-cards it goes towards your daily cap. ^ ^ ^ Finally the Underground, known as the Tube. If you have a zone 1,2 T-card you can only use the Tube in zones 1 and 2. If you have an all zones T-card, you can use it on the Tube in zones 1-6, but not 7,8 or 9. O-cards work until you run out of money. ^ ^ ^ People say you can get extensions to T-cards but I have never seen how that works. ^ ^ ^ If you want to use a tram your pass must include at least zone 3. ^ ^ ^ Docklands Light Railway (DLR) is included as far as Greenwich in zone 2, but beyond there is zone 3. - ^ ^ ^ - Any more questions, ask....

Nigel, I was not aware of what you are saying about TfL. Could you give me more info? Our Visitors card says Zone 1 & 2. The bus from Hammersmith sounds great. Could we take the tube from Paddington to Hammersmith? Or is Hammersmith in Zone 3? And I thought that I had done all my research and was ready to go ! We have taken the Thames cruise to Hampton Court and back (absolutely one of the lovliest Sundays I ever spent) and when it stopped at Kew Gardens I decided that on the next trip I want to go there. Soooo Thanks eveyone for you answers

I am not Nigel, but I have your answer. Your zone 1-2 travelcard is good for bus travel in any zone, go wherever you like on the bus with it. You can also buy an extension to and from zone 3 for your travelcard, ask the helpful clerks at any tube ticket window.
